There are several types of scans:<\/h2>\n

Smart Scan :<\/strong> a comprehensive scan that detects malware, outdated software, browser extensions with a poor reputation, network threats and performance issues.<\/p>\n

Full virus scan:<\/strong> a predefined, in-depth scan of your system that checks your drives and storage to detect malware (including rootkits).<\/p>\n

Targeted analysis:<\/strong> analyses the files you selected when you started the scan.<\/p>\n

Start-up scan:<\/strong> scans your PC the next time the system starts up, before any malware can launch. Running the boot-up scan when the system starts up improves the chances of detecting and removing malicious programmes before they can attack your PC.<\/p>\n

Personalised analysis:<\/strong> scans your PC based on the settings you have specified for the scan.<\/p>\n

Running an analysis:<\/h2>\n

Open the Avast user interface and go to Protection<\/strong> > Virus scans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Run the scan of your choice:<\/p>\n

Smart Scan :<\/strong> Click the \u2018Start Smart Scan\u2019 button.
\nFull virus scan:<\/strong> Click on the \u2018Full virus scan\u2019 thumbnail.
\nTargeted analysis:<\/strong> Click on the \u2018Targeted Scan\u2019 thumbnail, then select the file or folder you wish to scan, and click OK.
\nStart-up scan:<\/strong> Click on the \u2018Scan on startup\u2019 thumbnail, then click \u2018Run on next PC restart\u2019.
