My Avast antivirus software is asking me for a password that I don’t know. What should I do?

First, please restart your PC in Safe Mode, then show hidden folders, files and drives. Next, go to C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast, open the Avast folder and delete the file aswResp.dat (make sure you start your PC in Safe Mode, otherwise you won’t be able to delete it). Finally, close the folder and empty the Recycle Bin, then restart your PC as normal and launch Avast; the password will have been removed.

The other option is to Uninstall Avast using the uninstall utility that you can download here. Then reinstall Avast.
